چکیده

The purposes of this paper are twofold, namely first to present general criteria for the design of spatial data types that are necessary and valid for the modeling of spatial objects regardless whether we consider objects with sharp or undetermined boundaries, and second to show how the concepts of a type system for spatial objects with sharp boundaries can be suitably transferred and extended to the modeling of spatial objects with undetermined boundaries. The most relevant design criteria of such a type system comprise generality, closure properties, rigorous definition, finite resolution, numerical robustness, topological correctness, geometric consistency, extensibility and data model independence of spatial data types. The Realm/ROSE approach allows for these design criteria and offers an appropriate definition of a type system for spatial objects with sharp boundaries. An extension of the Realm/ROSE model is proposed that shows how general region objects with undetermined boundaries can be derived from this model which have nice closure properties and which obey the design criteria. The idea is to consider determined zones surrounding the undetermined borders of the object and expressing its minimal and maximal extension.

Implementation of the ROSE Algebra: Efficient Algorithms for Realm-Based Spatial Data Types

The ROSE algebra, defined earlier, is a system of spatial data types for use in spatial database systems. It offers data types to represent points, lines, and regions in the plane together with a comprehensive set of operations; semantics of types and operations have been formally defined. Values of these data types have a quite general structure, e.g. an object of type regions may consist of s...

Realm-Based Spatial Data Types: The ROSE Algebra1

Spatial data types or algebras for database systems should (i) be fully general (which means, closed under set operations, hence e.g. a region value can be a set of polygons with holes), (ii) have formally defined semantics, (iii) be defined in terms of finite representations available in computers, (iv) offer facilities to enforce geometric consistency of related spatial objects, and (v) be in...

Developing a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information

With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...

Numerical Simulation of Flow Past Oscillating Airfoil Using Oscillation of Flow Boundary Condition

The present study is devoted to an approximate modeling for numerical simulation of flows past oscillating airfoils. In this study, it is shown that the harmonic oscillating objects can be studied by simple numerical codes that are not able to solve moving grids. Instead of using moving grid for the simulation of flowfield around an oscillating airfoil, this unsteady flow is solved on a fixed g...

An Adverbial Approach for the Formal Specification of Topological Constraints Involving Regions with Broad Boundaries

Topological integrity constraints control the topological properties of spatial objects and the validity of their topological relationships in spatial databases. These constraints can be specified by using formal languages such as the spatial extension of the Object Constraint Language (OCL). Spatial OCL allows the expression of topological constraints involving crisp spatial objects. However, ...
